No college football team is supposed to go undefeated, ever. These are rare feats executed by rare teams. Going undefeated is not normal or to be expected and for the BCS system to expect college football teams to go undefeated in order to have a clear National Champion is an absurd crap shoot. The only way to ever have a true National Champion is to let them play, let the Boise's play the Alabama's and the USC's play the LSU's. The current system is ridiculous considering the amount of money going around on this picking system. The only true resolution is a college football playoff.
1. LSU Tigers (12-0)- Still the sole remaining mighty undefeated group of ballers in the rowdy SEC Conference. Their method of madness is stout interior defense backed by athletic playmakers in the secondary. Offensively the Tigers are unique because they play like their stifling defense by attacking portions of the gridiron. One can only imagine if LSU played USC or Boise in a playoff game, after all Boise did stomp on SEC East Champion Georgia 35-21 in the season opener. Regardless, LSU has taken on whoever comes their way and sent them home with one loss. From Oregon to Alabama this LSU football team has thrived in the face of adversity starting off the season losing their starting quarterback and other key players in a bar room brawl. The Tigers have come out swinging and are playing four full quarters of football. If they stumble against Georgia it could blow a hole in the BCS, again.
2. Alabama (11-1)- Bama has been putting it down from day one, playmakers all over the field including Heisman candidate Trent Richardson who has galloped to 1,583 yards and 20 touchdowns. The Tide have have stayed a serious contender for the BCS National Title against LSU and are salivating at the opportunity to battle the Tigers again. Still stacked with All-Americans on both sides of the ball. They still have the No.1 defense in the country allowing a mere 8.8 points per game.
3. Boise State (10-1)- This is one of the best football teams in the country. No matter who they play they play at the same high level averaging 43 points per game behind QB Kellen Moore. The Broncos dropped a one-point heartbreaker to TCU after Moore's record setting 46th win. The last second 39-yard field-goal missed by freshman kicker Dan Goodale was the difference. Moore was handed his first home loss as a Bronco. Moore has tallied 38 touchdowns and 3,194 passing yards.
4. Oklahoma State (10-1)- Football teams are not supposed to go undefeated, I have said this before, this is not the norm, no team is above losing except those '04 USC Trojans. I've been saying all season how the Brandon Weeden to Justin Blackmon combo is still one of the most potent wide-out to QB duos in the country. These two ballers have demolished defenses averaging 49 points per game ranking them second in the country in scoring. The Cowboys dropped one to Iowa State in OT 37-31, a stunner and the Cowboys face their nemesis Oklahoma this Saturday.
5. USC (10-2)- There will be no banishing of Troy in the OG Rankings, the Trojans are legit. Holding down the real 1st place spot in the PAC-12 South. Matt Barkley has amassed 3,528 yards passing along with 39 touchdowns. His favorite target is none other than local Serra High stand-out Robert Woods. The electrifying Woods has mashed on defenses for 1,292 yards and 15 touchdowns which are Heisman numbers that no one is talking about. Woods is a beast averaging 11.6 yards per catch. This is a very young football team led by a salty veteran QB in Barkley. The Trojans beat Oregon and UCLA and are the true original PAC-12 Champions even though UCLA and Oregon will battle for the official PAC-12 crown on Friday on FOX at 5p.m.
6. Oregon (10-2)- Still an awesome football team to watch after losing to LSU and USC. Oregon QB, Darron Thomas has tallied 27 passing TDs and 9 rushing TDs. Running back LaMichael James has romped for 1,427 yards rushing and 14 TDs. They knocked off highly touted Stanford 53-30 and the Ducks have been inching back into BCS National Title talk with their third ranked offense in the country averaging 45 points per game. Playmakers are everywhere on this offense and in the secondary. The Ducks will play the default PAC-12 South Champion UCLA on Friday Dec. 2 at 8p.m. on FOX at Autzen Stadium in Eugene Oregon.
7. Oklahoma (9-2)- The Sooners blasted Iowa State 26-6 and will always get acknowledgement for BCS play because of who they are. Yes, they have playmakers and a beast at QB in Landry Jones but they back it all up with consistent play averaging 43 points per game. Dropped one to a very good Baylor football team. They must win against rival Oklahoma State to attain BCS bliss. Oklahoma State waits in the wings for a showdown on Saturday Dec. 3 on the road at Boone Pickens Stadium at 5p.m. on ABC.
8. Stanford (11-1)- Stanford ranks fifth in the nation in scoring with 43.6 points per game, the Cardinal fell to Oregon 53-30 exposing their limitations on defense. Andrew Luck is still a top NFL pick having tallied 35 TDs passing and 3,170 yards passing but he is still the second best QB in the PAC-12. The Cardinal held on against California 31-28 and beat Notre Dame 28-14, Stanford is definitely BCS bowl worthy.
9. Virginia Tech (11-1)- Hokies advance behind their beast at running back in David Wilson. Wilson averages 6.3 yards per touch and has pounded out 1,595 yards rushing to date with nine rushing TDs. Frank Beamer's disciplined football team has a shot at BCS bliss if they can knock off Clemson for the ACC Championship on Saturday at 5p.m. on ESPN. The Hokies are BCS worthy and their coach Beamer won the first Joseph V. Paterno Coach of the Year Award in 2010.
10. Houston (12-0)- They have earned the respect of many still touting the No.1 offense in the country scoring 53 points per game behind the beastie QB Kase Keenum. Keenum has 43 TD passes and 4,726 passing yards which are monster numbers for Keenum who has dominated since he hit the gridiron at Houston. Keenum averages 450 yards passing per game, casting the Cougars into BCS bowl talk. They face Southern Mississippi on Saturday at 9a.m. on ABC to clinch the Conference USA Title.
